I Feel Sorry for Britney Spears
I do. Really. How can someone with so much have so little? Britney made it into Newsweek this week (p. 68) for how awful she was at the MTV Music Video Awards. Perhaps this says something more about Newsweek than it does Britney, but . . . yikes! My heart is breaking for her and her children. She is blasted in the t for her parenting skills. She was blasted by everyone for her physical shape (I thought she looked great in the pictures, I didn't see the award show performance). She is blasted by the court and the media for her alcohol use and her lifestyle in general. As a person with PMDD who has been depressed, I can't say what I would and would not have done (back before I understood PMDD and was treated) had I had her resources, her youth, and her failed relationships behind me. Perhaps I would have left my children in the care of others to drink away my depression. Perhaps I would have shaved my head for attention. The question is, can such a celebrity, who is constantly in the limelight, really get the opportunity to make herself better? Does she want to get better? Is she really getting the proper help? Some of you may be asking yourselves why I care. Well, I care because she is a mom in trouble. I care, because I believe her behavior is sending a message to our society that our values are screwed up, and being a mother, no matter what your resources are, is especially difficult when you don't have enough emotional support. I really hope she gets the help she needs.
