The work which led to the discovery of fluoxetine (Prozac) began at in 1970. 17 years later, the FDA approved it! Boy, things sure take a long time, don’t they? There are millions of clinically depressed people in the world, with I being one of them. Anyhow, 20 years ago, today, a break-through anti-depressant was unleashed to the masses. It's now known to also alleviate:
obsessive-compulsive disorder
bulimia nervosa
panic disorder
premenstrual dysphoric disorder
hypochondriasis
body dysmorphic disorder
Funny thing is, I don’t think some of those disorders were known back in 1987. Nevertheless - Happy Birthday, Prozac. While you may’ve not been the first anti-depressant in the world, you did help open the doors. In the sense of making it acceptable for people to take medicine, for clinical depression. I never took you, but many of your future relatives I have digested. And I’m happy to say that your kin has helped me, tremendously.
